İngilizcede be supposed to Kullanımı
İngilizcede be supposed to yapısı, kişinin yapması gerektiği ama yap(a)madığı şeyleri ifade etmek için kullanılmaktadır.
İngilizcede “be supposed to”
Bilindiği üzere to be fiili geniş zaman formundayken am-is-are, geçmiş zaman formundayken ise was/were şeklinde kullanılmaktadır. Bundan dolayı supposed to karşımıza am/is/are supposed to ya da was/were supposed to şeklinde çıkar.
❗ İngilizcede was/were supposed to kalıbı, kişinin yapması gerektiği ama yapamadığı veya mücbir sebeplerden yapmadığı şeyleri ifade etmek için kullanılıyor. Buna karşılık had to ise, kişinin yapması gerektiği ve bundan dolayı yaptığı şeyleri ifade etmek için kullanılır. Zaten was/were supposed to ile had to arasındaki temel fark da budur.

🇹🇷 Maçın saat altıda bitmesi gerekiyordu. (ama bitmemiş)

🇹🇷 Arabada emniyet kemeri takmanız gerekiyor. (henüz takmamış)
🇺🇸 I’m supposed to be at school right now.
🇹🇷 Şu an okulda olmam gerekiyordu. (ama okulda değil)
⭐ Yapılmaması gereken işleri ifade ederken kullanılır:

⭐ Genel olarak doğruluğu kabul edilmiş yargıları ifade ederken kullanılır:
