The Crow and the Pitcher
Once upon a time, in a land where the sun always smiled, there lived a clever little crow. One hot, hot day, the sun was shining so brightly that the whole land felt tired and thirsty. And oh, poor crow! He was so thirsty too!
He flew up, up high, and down, down low, searching everywhere for water. Over green fields and past big, old trees, he looked and looked. But there wasn’t a single drop of water to be found.
Just when he felt like giving up, his shiny, clever eyes spotted something far away. “What’s that?” he thought, his heart leaping with hope. It was a pitcher, sitting all alone on the dry ground! “Maybe there’s water inside!” he said, and he flapped his wings as fast as he could to reach it.
When he got there, he peeked inside the pitcher. Oh, hooray! There was water at the very bottom, sparkling like a little treasure. But, oh no! The water was so far down, and no matter how hard the crow tried, his beak just couldn’t reach it.
“Oh, what do I do now?” the crow wondered, feeling a little sad. But then, because he was such a smart little bird, an idea popped into his head. “I know!” he chirped happily.
Right next to the pitcher, the ground was full of little pebbles. One by one, the crow picked up a pebble with his beak and dropped it into the pitcher. Plop! Plop! The pebbles sank to the bottom, and guess what? The water started to rise!
He worked and worked, pebble after pebble, until finally, the water came all the way up to the top. “I did it!” the crow cheered, and he bent down to take a big, cool, yummy sip.
And so, the clever little crow wasn’t thirsty anymore, and he learned that a smart idea and hard work can solve even the trickiest problems.
